Floke: Byggfloken 2.0 Circular Economy for the Construction Industry

Tek Pluss - a vision for new business models that transform the construction industry beyond net zero

We worked together with participants from 22 organizations from the private, volunteer and public sectors, during 2021 to finding the new business models that could potentially transform the construction industry.

The Process and Innovation Brief

In Byggfloken 2.0 Circular Economy for the Construction Industry we have worked according to the Floke methodology developed by Æra Strategic Innovation. Floke is an innovation program developed to address complex sustainability challenges facing society, and which, through cross-sector collaboration, creates new solutions and strategies to turn a challenge into an opportunity. The answers you get should demonstrate and inspire how we can create a change of course towards more sustainable societies, both economically, environmentally and socially.

Byggfloken 2.0 Circular Economy for the Construction Industry received the following assignment or brief from the preliminary project:

We are tasked with finding the new business models that could potentially transform the construction industry. Where should we set the bar, and how ambitious should we be? What are we transitioning from, and what are we transitioning to? And finally, who are the key players? The same old familiar ones, or new disruptive challengers?

That’s why a preliminary study for this challenge was conducted, funded by Enova, DOGA, and Innovation Norway. Through in-depth interviews with key stakeholders and desk research on reports and publications, we aimed to identify some future scenarios, along with hypotheses on what future business models in a zero-emissions society might look like.

• Design for reuse
• Proptech for sustainability

Going forward: from ambition to action

The portfolio of concepts and new solutions are ready to be developed further. Some projects have been tested, piloted and implemented immediately, while others will live on in new forms or require further development and testing before they can be realized.
